Answering Questions about Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese hands-on healing technique for healing and stress reduction that works in a person’s energy field. It can be healing on all levels, mental, emotional and physical. It is administered by a certified Reiki practitioner. To receive Reiki, you lie on a Reiki table (like a massage table), fully clothed, and the Reiki Practitioner may lay hands on you or work in your energy field, often 2 to 4 inches above your body.
How does Reiki work?
Reiki is high vibration energy. It works by breaking up energy blocks in the body’s energy field. Your energy field naturally flows around your body and is a component of the human body system. When your energy is blocked you feel less than your best. Dr Valerie Hunt, author of Infinite Mind, Science of the Human Vibrations of Consciousness, performed numerous scientifc experiments on the human energy field. Dr. Hunt's work with the human Biofield was reocniged by the National Institutes of Health, a government organization. She has this to say:
“Physics has found that by periodically introducing energy into chaotic systems they can be pulled back toward order. Because the human energy field is so resilient, manipulation techniques such as hands-on healing, subtle energy devices, and body therapies introducing subtle energy into the system can more effectively preserve health than those therapies using chemical or mechanical intervention.”
Note that illness represents a "chaotic system." Prescription drugs are "chemical intervention" and surgery is "mechanical intervention." Reiki constitutes both hands-on healing and a subtle energy body therapy.
What is the Human Energy Field?
The human energy field, also called the aura, or the biofield, is created by the trillions of cells of DNA in your body that each contains a tiny electrical charge. DNA contains biophotons, or tiny photons of light and light is energy. Each of the body’s organs generates energy. The biggest energy producer in the human body is the heart. The heart’s energy can be measured using an electrocardiogram machine. The brain’s energy is measured using an electroencephalogram. Note that the human heart produces more energy than the human brain. The human aura can be seen by some with the naked eye. It can also be photographed and measured using specialized equipment. The existence of the human aura was first proven by Dr. Valerie Hunt. Following her pioneering work, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) termed the human energy field "the biofield."
How does Reiki feel?
People experience Reiki in a variety of ways. Some people feel heat from the Practitioner’s hands. Others feel energy moving through their body. For many people Reiki is a very soothing sensation that gently moves you to a more peaceful and serene space, like being gently rocked to sleep. After a Reiki session you may have clearer, more lucid thoughts, be more at peace, feel spontaneously happy or loved and experience relief from physical pain.
Why do you need Reiki?
As we go through our daily lives and daily routines, energy blocks come and go in response to all the stressors we face each day. Sometimes these energy blocks spontaneously clear up when our emotions are positive and we are happy. Other times, especially if we are dealing with long term stressors, such as family, job and financial issues, they build up over time, slowly moving inwards to our physical body causing illness. Reiki removes the blocks in the energetic body. Your physical body is always trying to be the healthiest it can be. When the energy field is flowing smoothly, the physical body operates more efficiently cleaning up day to day toxicity and illness.
Why does energy become blocked?
Several factors influence our energy field. We create our own energy blocks unconsciously by having bad experiences, negative thoughts, unhappy thoughts and stressful lives. Stress is negative energy. Negative energy is low vibration energy. If blocks build up in our energy field we feel weak, depleted and less than our best. When people worry about us or have negative thoughts towards us, this also creates energy blocks in our energy field. Being around negative people or exposed to negative situations is another way that our energy becomes blocked. Low vibration diets rich in processed food, too much protein, and chemical additives also cause our energy levels to sink.
Dr. Valerie Hunt, in her book Infinite Mind, Science of the Human Vibration of Consciousness, describes an experiment in which she was able to measure human energy during hands-on healing experiments:
“We observed that before the brain wave was activated and before stimuli altered the heart rate, blood pressure or breathing, the [human energy] field had already responded. This led us to postulate that a person’s primary repsonse in his world takes place first in the auric field, not in the sensory nerves nor in the brain.”

What happens if we don’t clear energy blocks?
In the short term, energy blocks create feelings of depression, lethargy, fatigue, brain fog and other negative feelings. In the long term, if energy blocks are not cleared, they can result in chronic illness. Illness moves from the energetic field into the physical body. The Life Force or Vital Force enters our being through the chakras. Our chakra system regulates incoming vital life force energy. As light from the sun and from the cosmos breaks over our body it refracts into the colors of the rainbow. This is why the chakras resonate to the colors of the rainbow. Your chakras are spinning wheels of light and trapped negative energy blocks them. Each chakra corresponds to a hormone-producing endocrine gland. You have seven primary endocrine glands and seven primary chakras so there is a one-to-one correspondence. Once the chakras are blocked physical illness is likely to show up around the area of the chakra that is blocked. So a sore throat, as an example, indicates a blocked throat chakra. Therefore, clearing the throat chakra will often result in helping to clear up a sore throat. It will also help you to express what is on your mind, or become the fullest expression of your authentic self.
Can Reiki balance my chakras?
Yes. Reiki will find and clear blocked chakras, allowing your chakras to come into balance. If you are suffering through a period of strong emotions, the chakras may become blocked again as the Reiki wears off. Having several Reiki sessions at times like this can help you change your emotional response to stressful situations allowing yourself to hold the balance in your chakras more permanently. This means that situations that used to stress you out will no longer cause you stress. You will simply be able to manage your life more easily.
How do you clear a chakra?
There are many ways to clear the chakras. A Reiki practitioner will clear the chakras using Reiki energy in a variety of ways. Reiki is high vibration energy and therefore breaks up low vibration energy, such as blocked energy in the chakras. We can direct Reiki energy to a specific chakra by working in the area of that chakra, by directing your focus by conscious intent to that chakra. A Reiki Master may also employ other modalities for clearing chakras such as crystals, tuning forks, singing bowls or a pendulum. Sound is vibration energy and is an excellent way to clear the energetic field. This is why listening to your favorite music is very soothing and listening to a cacophony of noise is very unsettling. Likewise, crystals have healing vibrational frequencies which can be used in conjunction with Reiki or sound therapy to clear blocks. See my YouTube video on chakra balancing here.
Can a Reiki Master detect blocked or unbalanced chakras?
Yes. Most Reiki Masters can detect, feel or sense blocked chakras. They may do this intuitively, from scanning the energy, with their hand or their mind, or through the use of a pendulum or other means. The Reiki Master then uses a combination of experience and intuition to determine the right approach for releasing the block for each individual client. We are all different and respond to different healing techniques. In my practice, I spend time talking to my clients to get to the bottom of what is causing the energy block to begin with. For example, a heart chakra might be blocked because a person is feeling unsure about themselves, lacking in self esteem, feeling unappreciated, self-sacrificing for the sake of another, or not giving themselves enough self care. As they hold onto these emotions, the heart chakra can become blocked and lung disease, breast cancer or depression can be the result. Once you realize what is causing the block, we discuss healthy approaches to dealing with the problem you are facing.
How will I know if the block has been released?
When energy blocks are released you feel better and more energized. Sometimes you feel emotionally stronger and better equipped to deal with issues. Often, in addition to feeling better physically, you experience an emotional release. Sometimes the emotional release happens first, and the physical relief takes a while longer. This is because the physical body is influenced by the emotional body and it needs time to repair itself.
What else will Reiki do for me?
Reiki helps us on several levels. During a Reiki session, most people achieve a deep sense of peace that stays with them for hours or days after the Reiki session. It may alleviate physical or emotional pain or emotional trauma. Reiki is especially beneficial for those suffering from brain fog, PTSD, ADD, and other conditions that stop you from performing at your best. If you continue to receive Reiki over several sessions it works in you at a conscious and subconscious level to remove long held beliefs that no longer serve you, allowing you to let go of addictions, depression and anxiety, and also freeing up trapped energy that can energize you and help you move forward with projects or life changes you have been putting off. Resistance and negative emotion are often trapped in the subconscious and layered in along with negative beliefs and experiences. This is why it may take more than one Reiki session. If you think about it, it takes years to become unwell and so it makes sense that it takes us time to heal.
Where does Reiki come from?
Reiki is universal life force energy. It is the intangible chi, ki or prana energy that marks the difference between being alive and being dead. We can refer to it as the Vital Life Force, also sometimes called the Dynamis. It is all around us and comes from the sun, the stars, the moon, the earth and the cosmos at large. Our chakras draw in this universal life force energy and that is what gives us life. During a Reiki session, the Reiki Practitioner channels high vibration life force energy and directs it to your energy field.
How does a Reiki Master channel Reiki energy?
A Reiki Master or Reiki Practitioner is attuned to Reiki energy by a Reiki Master in a Reiki class. Then through the conscious intention of using Reiki, a Reiki Practitioner is able to channel Reiki energy through him or herself or to another. We do not use our own energy and do not deplete our energy while channeling Reiki. This is a big difference between Reiki energy healing and some other forms of energy work where healers take on the illness of the person. In Reiki, we keep our own energy fields clean and pure while we channel universal life force energy.
Is Reiki a belief system?
No, Reiki is not a belief system and it is not religious in any way. Reiki can be explained by quantum physics and the physics of conscious intention. If it were a belief system it would only work on those that believe in it. But Reiki works on everyone unless a person has the specific intention of blocking the Reiki. There are many scientific studies and scientists who have proven through electronic measurement devices that Reiki is really being channeled and really reaches the recipient. Some Reiki proofs – such as the proof that remote Reiki works - are based in quantum or multi-dimensional physics involving the concept of entanglement which was addressed by Einstein and many more recent scientists. The work of Dr. Glen Rein with regard to DNA shows that DNA can be influenced through conscious intention. But the easiest proof for most people is the experience of receiving Reiki. Once you have experienced it for yourself, you are sure it exists and can operate in you.
Is Reiki safe for everyone?
Yes, Reiki is safe for everyone. It is becoming more and more widely used in hospitals, in particular in hospice for the elderly and dying because it is soothing and gentle. It is also used in oncology wards where it is helpful for releasing the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Reiki is safe for pregnant and nursing mothers, for newborn babies and for people suffering physical illness. It is also safe for people who are weak and fragile or those on prescription medications.
Will Reiki conflict with my other treatments?
No, Reiki will not conflict with any medicines you are taking, whether prescription or non-prescription and will not conflict with any other healing modalities you may be trying. In fact, Reiki may well enhance the effectiveness of other treatments you are receiving because it raises the immune response of your own body.
Is Reiki supported by science?
Yes. There are multiple scientific studies documenting that energy healing is real and has a verifiable healing effect on the human mind, body, spirit system. One aspect of Reiki is the science of conscious intent. Many authors, scientists, doctors and physicists have proven that Reiki and other energetic modalities work. I use scientific references on this website and in my articles. Nurses often learn Reiki and it used in hospitals because its benefits following surgery are tangible and have been documented. The human aura has been studied by the National Institutes of Health and termed the "Biofield". Dr. Valerie Hunt has demonstrated how our energy field is impacted by our environment. Eileen McKusick has mapped the human biofield showing where blocks in our energy relate to organs of our body or traumas experienced at the different ages we have passed through. David Wilcock points to the work of Glen Rhein who has shown that our DNA can be affected positively and negatively by our conscious intent (when we give Reiki we set the intention to channel healing energy). Masaru Emoto has demonstrated the effects of hateful and loving words on water (our bodies are mostly water). George Vithoulkas, a world renowned homeopath, states that of all healing modalities there are three that work: homeopathy, energy healing [Reiki] and acupuncture. But don't take their or my word for it. Try it and see for yourself.

Is Reiki a spiritual or religious practice?
Since Reiki is based in physics you do not need to be either religious or spiritual to give or receive Reiki. Since Reiki is universal life force energy it works on all living things. You can give Reiki to animals and even plants (you can look into the work of Cleve Backster, among others, for proof of plant consciousness). That said, Reiki practitioners are often spiritual and will delve into metaphysical and spiritual ideas with you if you are interested. But it is not necessary to be spiritual or religious to benefit from either giving or receiving Reiki.
The Bible states that we should not divinatory arts. Is Reiki a divinatory art?
A divinatory art is the art of foreseeing the future. This is a natural gift in some people and a Reiki Master may or may not have this gift, just like anybody else. However, Reiki constitutes channeling energy through the science of conscious intention. It is not a divinatory art. If this question bothers you I would invite you to ponder on how exactly Jesus was able to turn water into wine. If this is a true fact (and I believe it is) then how did he do it? Was he really a one-of-a-kind super human with magical powers - or was he an advanced human being who understood the science of consciousness? Modern archeology has many proofs of Jesus studying mind sciences in the East and traces of him are to be found in India, Japan and Egypt.
Who can learn Reiki?
Anyone can learn to channel healing energy and there are many energy healers in the world at large. Reiki is a specific vibration of healing energy that you receive through an attunement during Reiki training from a qualified Reiki Master. Anyone can take Reiki training. It requires no special gift or skill, only a desire to learn.
Why do you need Reiki?
Life is an emotional journey. Part of our life journey is learning how to deal with multiple stressors - daily stressors as well as life-long stressors - and the chaos of the outside world, and yet find our inner peace and achieve personal happiness. Reiki is a wonderful tool for use on that journey, no matter where you are in your life.
Can you give Reiki remotely?
You can absolutely give Reiki remotely. Many people prefer to receive a Reiki session in person because of the personal interaction with another human. The human touch and the atmosphere of the Reiki room enhance the experience of the person receiving Reiki. However, it is not necessary to have Reiki in person and in fact many report that a distance session is more powerful than an in-person session. If someone is bedridden, in another town, another state, or even another country, Reiki is still effective. You can even send Reiki to yourself or others for a future event, such as a job interview, a dentist visit or a meeting at work with a difficult individual.
How does remote Reiki work?
Consciousness is energy and energy is consciousness. So when we set the intent to give Reiki remotely, it finds the intended recipient. There are many scientific theories for how this works. It has to do with the quantum field, which has been called various things by various scientists. David Wilcock in his book Source Field Investigations calls it "the Source Field", Lynne Taggart in her book, The Field: the Quest for the Secret Life of the Universe, calls it simply "the Field." Einstein called it "Spooky Action at a Distance." Essentially there is a web of interconnectness that permeates the space-time continuum. Reiki energy travels across this web of interconnectedness – the Field – to reach the recipient. Radio waves, cell phone signals, and light, all of which are energy, travel through the Source Field. Thought is also energy and can be directed with conscious intent.
How do I choose a Reiki Master or Reiki Practitioner?
When you choose a Reiki Practitioner, just as you choose a dentist, a doctor, a job, etc., it is important to look for a personality that you resonate with and one that offers the types of healing you are interested in experiencing. There are many different types of healing modalities just as there are many different types of people, each with their own set of preferences, aversions, likes and dislikes. Often it’s the personality of the healer, more than the healing modality itself, that draws you in. The best way to decide is to try different Reiki Masters and different styles of Reiki to find the one that suits you best. As a Licensed Reiki Master Teacher I have taken Reiki classes multiple times at all levels, taught many students, and have over one thousand hours of dedicated Reiki training along with 3.5 years of mentorship from another Licensed Reiki Master Teacher.
Can my dog or cat get Reiki?
Reiki is great for pets. You can give Reiki to any pet, including dogs, cats, hamsters and horses. Because animals don’t have a human filter of skepticism, they are especially receptive to Reiki. You will see them calm visibly before your eyes. It’s great for animals who are stressed or hyper, or suffering the physical pain of arthritis or aging, and pets dealing with an illness. You can become proactive in helping an aging pet by receiving Reiki training and giving your pet Reiki. This works out much cheaper over time than bringing your pet for Reiki or having a Practitioner come to your home to give your pet Reiki.
How do we teach Reiki online?
An online Reiki class is taught in the same way, using the same curriculum as an in-person class except that you come in online from your own home instead of traveling to class. Online classes are live, interactive and personal, just like in-person classes. Most of my classes include students both in-person and online. This gives the students a lot of possibilities - we mix and match in-person students with online students and we get instant living proof that distance Reiki works!
Is an online class as effective as an in-person class?
The Reiki attunements you receive in an online class are just as powerful as those that are given in person. This is because in Holy Fire® Reiki and Divine Light Reiki energies, the energy comes not through the teacher but directly from Source Energy so it really doesn't matter if you are here or there. This a more refined and more powerful way of receiving the attunement because the Reiki energy does not pass through the filter of the human teacher. In the Holy Fire® system of Reiki an attunement is received through a placement (for the symbols) and through an ignition (for the Holy Fire® energy). During a placement or an ignition, the student is placed into a quiet meditation while the energy is received directly from Source Energy, rather than from the teacher as in other styles of Reiki. In Divine Light Reiki, the attunements are received in a similar way. Therefore it is just as effective whether the student is in the same room as the teacher or whether they are somewhere else.
Holy Fire® Reiki
What is Holy Fire® Reiki?
Holy Fire Reiki is a high vibration Reiki energy that comes from a higher level of consciousness. It was introduced through the International Center for Reiki Training in 2014 and is better suited for today's energy. Reiki is dynamic. Mikao Usui developed his energy practice around the need to heal victims of earthquake and tsunami disasters in Tokyo in the 1920s. His teaching methods were developed to be responsive to an immediate crisis. He trained 21 Reiki Shihan (Teachers). Some of his teachers developed their own styles of Reiki. Chujiro Hayashi was taught by Mikao Usui. He developed his own style of teaching Reiki and in turn he taught Hawayo Takata. Mrs. Takata lived in Hawaii, and later moved to the mainland. She brought Reiki to America. She also developed her own style of Reiki and that formed the basis of most Reiki taught in America today. Holy Fire® is in some sense, a return to the roots of Reiki as taught and practiced by Mikao Usui, and in some sense an evolution of Reiki that is an upgraded, higher vibration Reiki energy.

How is Holy Fire® Reiki different from other types of Reiki?
Holy Fire® Reiki is built upon the foundation of traditional Usui Ryoho Reiki that was introduced in Japan by Mikao Usui. Usui Ryoho Reiki is the foundation of most Reiki as it is practiced in the United States. Practitioners of Holy Fire® Reiki learn the Reiki basics as taught in the traditional Usui Ryoho style of Reiki. The difference is a higher vibration of energy is received in the Reiki Attunement or Placement when a student becomes a Holy Fire® Reiki Practitioner. Holy means to make whole or to heal and Fire is the heat that creates a catalyst for change. When you are sick your body gets a fever to create heat which catalyzes the body into healing. I like to think of Holy Fire® Reiki as a catalyst for deeply healing change within the body, mind spirit complex.
Where does Holy Fire® Reiki come from?
Like other types of Reiki, Holy Fire® Reiki energy is universal life force energy. Holy Fire Reiki® is a more refined form of Reiki that comes from a higher level of consciousness. Holy Fire Reiki® Practitioners go through their own personal healing journey when they take Holy Fire® Reiki training and therefore are able to channel energy more clearly than before their Holy Fire® Reiki training. This is especially noticeable for Reiki Practitioners who practiced other forms of Reiki (such as I did) prior to taking Holy Fire® Reiki training.
Is Holy Fire® Reiki religious?
Holy Fire® Reiki is not religious. The word “Holy” comes from the same root as “whole” or “holistic.” Holy is not a word exclusive to religion. As with other forms of Reiki, it is not necessary to belong to any particular faith or religious belief system. Because Holy Fire® Reiki is energy, it works for all people of all faiths, including those who are deeply religious. It does not conflict with or contradict any religion. It also works for atheists and agnostics. Having said that, many Reiki Practitioners are spiritual, and Reiki can guide you if you are on a spiritual journey. But is it not necessary to be either religious or spiritual to give or receive any type of Reiki, including Holy Fire® Reiki. There is a scientific basis for energy healing. It in based in physics, not religion as I have explained in detail the section above.
Who Can Take Holy Fire® Reiki?
Anyone can learn Holy Fire® Reiki. You don't need any special qualifications to register for Reiki levels 1 and 2. If you wish to take the Reiki Master/Teacher class (now called Reiki Master Practitioner), you need to be a Reiki level 2 Practitioner from any discipline of Reiki and 6 months of experience using Reiki on yourself or others. (By the way, if you don't want to wait 6 months, consider Divine Light Master which has no wait period.
Why so many versions of Holy Fire®?
Holy Fire® Reiki was first introduced in 2014. Since then, refinements have been made to the teaching process. It was noticed that the energy itself has been coming through at a continually higher vibration. This has led to new versions of Holy Fire®. In 2015, the energy was upgraded to Holy Fire® II (not to be confused with Reiki Level 2). Then in September of 2018 it was upgraded again to Holy Fire® III. In 2020, Reiki again responded to the situation caused by the pandemic by bringing through a higher vibration which can now be taught online. Currently (April of 2022 as I write this) the Holy Fire® energy has again been upgraded to include a World Peace teaching and ignition. Holy Fire® Reiki Masters can now embody and role model World Peace. If you have taken Holy Fire® Reiki in the past at a previous level, you can go through an upgrade process to receive the latest vibration. You do not have to take all the classes again. What are Placements and Ignitions?
In Holy Fire® Reiki the traditional way of giving attunements has been replaced with placements and ignitions. Placements and ignitions are more effective for the student and take the burden off the teacher to learn the attunement process. Learning the attunement procedure put many students off wanting to become Reiki Teachers. Now the process is much easier and the energy that comes through is more powerful because it does not pass through the filter of the teacher. Also, teachers are able to hold bigger classes because you attune all the students at once through the placement and ignition process. Students in the Holy Fire® Reiki Master Practitioner class are able to focus more on their own healing process and on raising their own vibration because they no longer have to memorize the various attunement details and have more time for learning advanced Reiki techniques. Placements are given at Reiki Levels 1 and 2 and ignitions are given at the Reiki Master, and Reiki Karuna® Master levels. You learn how to give placements and ignitions in the Master classes.
Are online Ignitions and Placements effective?
The Reiki attunements you receive in the form of placements and ignitions during a Holy Fire® Reiki class are actually more powerful than those that were being given in person before we were authorized to teach online classes. This more powerful energy is also available to those who take the class in person. This is because the energies are continually responding to what is needed in the world. In the Holy Fire® system of Reiki, an attunement is received through a placement (for the symbols) and through an ignition (for the Holy Fire® energy). During a placement or an ignition, the student is placed into a quiet meditation while the energy is received directly from source energy, rather than from the teacher as in other styles of Reiki. Divine Light Reiki
What is Divine Light Reiki?
Divine Light is the Universal Life Force that gives all things life. It comes from Source Energy. When light enters the human body it breaks over the Chakras and refracts into the colors of the rainbow. Each of your 7 primary chakras resonates to a color of the rainbow. This is the light that gives life to the body and to all living things. The more light you can take into your body, the healthier, wiser and happier you become. Divine means it comes from the heavens.
Why do you teach two different kinds of Reiki?
Originally I taught Shiki Reiki Ryoho, a more traditional style of Reiki. I started teaching Holy Fire® Reiki in 2016 after my ignitions into Holy Fire® II. This brought me a beautiful and powerful new healing energy and I went on to receive all the upgrades as they came in. I also studied Karuna Reiki®, another powerful Reiki energy which I now teach as well - so I actually teach 3 kinds of Reiki. I was happy teaching Holy Fire® and Karuna Reiki® until one of my students asked me if I would be willing to teach Reiki another way. She wanted to develop her own teaching style and wanted to step out of the framework that was required with Holy Fire® which is a trademarked system of the International Center for Reiki training. It was that day I was inspired by a new energy and a new symbol. There was so much information coming through me that day that I could not concentrate on my clients and I developed the curriculum for Divine Light I& II and Divine Light Master that same day. I also received the Divine Light symbol which is based on the manifestation principles of the 3, 6 and 9 - numbers frequently talked about by Nikola Tesla, and which have special significance with regard to energy and manifestation. After working with a Medium, and based on the intuitive guidance I was receiving, I also realized that Divine Light Reiki was being inspired by the Angels and that everything I had learned so far in my life was becoming suddenly relevant to this new way of teaching Reiki.
What is the difference between Divine Light Reiki and Holy Fire® Reiki?
Holy Fire® Reiki was inspired through William Rand in 2014 by the Brothers and Sisters of the Light. It is a more refined and more powerful vibration than "traditional" Reiki and is intended to help our ascension as human beings on an ascending planet Earth. It is a beautiful and deeply healing energy and I continue to enjoy using it and teaching it. Divine Light is also a powerful and deeply healing vibration of Reiki that comes from Source Energy, just like Holy Fire® Reiki, and is being inspired by the Archangels. My experience with Divine Light Masters that I have taught is that this vibration is just as deeply healing as the Holy Fire® and Karuna Reiki® energies. The main difference is the way that it is taught. First of all, there is a lot of science in the Divine Light teachings. We talk about the electromagnetic spectrum, the morphic field of resonance and the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9. Divine Light Reiki is designed and taught in such a way that those who want to break free from the framework can introduce their own teaching material into the class. You can even combine teaching Reiki with teaching other things. In the Divine Light Master class, for example, we show you how to use Reiki with crystals, tuning forks and singing bowls as well as how to use Reiki for house clearings. We also go deeper into working with clients in an active practice and ways to build and expand your practice to create more income. Holy Fire® Reiki has other beautiful teachings such as discovering the authentic self and healing the ego and the shadow self.
How do I choose between Divine Light Reiki and Holy Fire® Reiki?
Holy Fire® Reiki provides a stable framework for teaching and ensures that everyone who comes for Holy Fire® training receives the same teaching. You are expected to purchase and use the manuals provided by the International Center for Reiki Training and teach the same way you were taught. This is very helpful for people who like structure and are happy to conform to a common set of standards. The material is copyrighted, and while you can add your own material, you cannot duplicate or reproduce the material for your own purposes. In contrast, when you take a Divine Light Reiki Master class you are given editable versions of the manual. We ask that you retain original information in the manual but you are not obliged to teach it, only pass it on. You are able to add your own material. So for example, if you would like to add additional information about working with Reiki and massage, or teaching Reiki to children, you are free to do so. We each come with our own unique gifts and unique purpose. In Divine Light Reiki we take the position that you are a sovereign human being with the right to command the energies in the way that suits you best. This includes teaching. So our goal is to provide you with a framework which you can use in its entirety, or deviate from if you wish. I was also inspired to make sure that there is plenty of material indicating the scientific basis of Reiki which is often missing in other Reiki lineages. This is becoming increasingly important to our understanding of why and how Reiki works in order to help Reiki have a broader appeal to the mainstream public and especially to those with a strong religious background, many of whom think there is something suspicious about Reiki.
Why don't you teach traditional Reiki?
Mikao Usui received a spontaneous gift of Reiki while meditating on Mt Kurama in Japan. He lived for four more years which he spent experimenting with and developing his system of Reiki. He passed that to Churijo Hayashi, a Japanese doctor, who further developed the system and he, in turn, passed his teachings to Mrs Hawayo Takata, a Japanese woman living in Hawaii and later on the mainland. Mrs Takata further refined the Reiki teachings, refining the system of attunements and hand positions that are widely used today. When she passed away, several of her Shihan (Reiki Masters) developed their own styles and lineages of Reiki. Later, in Japan, other students of Mikao Usui were discovered practicing and teaching Reiki and each had developed their own style and system of Reiki. In the 1980s, William Lee Rand developed his own style of Reiki. Today William has several linages of Reiki and continues to inspire the world with new and upgraded Reiki energies. The truth is that Reiki is continuously changing and adapting to the needs of the world and under the inspiration of those Reiki Masters who embrace Reiki as a way of life. So the short answer is there is no single way of teaching traditional Reiki.
