What is Reiki?
Reiki is a hands-on energy healing technique that works in the subtle energetic body. Reiki is suitable for everyone and is especially suitable for those suffering from physical pain, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, PTSD or recovering from illness. Reiki is often used in hospitals because it is proven to speed recovery, especially after surgery and during cancer recovery. I have witnessed Reiki help many people. For example, one person experienced a spontaneous recovery from a lump in the breast. Women have become pregnant after releasing anxiety and fear around motherhood or have been able to carry a baby to term after multiple miscarriages. People who receive Reiki regularly often experience significant improvements in their levels of anxiety and depression and positive shifts in their approach to life in general. Reiki smoothes the triggers that cause us to feel stressed and we start to make healthier life choices.

Since we are all unique individuals and carry our unique energetic signature, Reiki works differently for everyone but it seems to know what you need and operates in the space that is just right for you. Reiki is a powerful healing modality and can sometimes have amazing results.

To receive Reiki you simply lie on a Reiki table (like a massage table), fully clothed, and the Reiki Master works in your energy field. You will feel the Reiki flow through your body as a pleasant, tingling sensation, or perhaps as heat, although experiences are very personal and different for everyone. At the end of the session you will feel calm and relaxed. For some people physical pain is relieved. Some people see light and color, others have visions or shamanic-like journeys. Your experience will be just right for you.

Reiki is Safe For Everyone
Reiki never causes harm and will not conflict with any other treatments you are receiving, including prescription medications, acupuncture, chiropractic and other healing modalities. It is competely safe and can be used on pregnant and nursing mothers, those in hospice, and babies.

Children and pets are especially receptive to Reiki because they have no filters to prevent them receiving the total benefits of Reiki. It's best to come to Reiki with an open mind. Sometimes a distance session works best if pets and children are restless. Reiki can be used to help with many conditions. Distance Reiki is just as effective as in-person Reiki because we are all connected energetically. Here are some of the conditions that Reiki can help with:
-
Stress, Anxiety, Depression
-
Grief and Loss
-
PTSD, ADD, ADHD
-
Recovering from sexual abuse, emotional abuse and trauma
-
Insomnia
-
Preparing your body for surgery
-
Post surgery recovery
-
Supporting the body through other treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation
-
Physical pain, including migraines, PMS, and "phantom" pains in the body
-
Recovering from a serious illness, injury, etc.

How Does Reiki Work?
The human body is made of trillions of cells, each containing its own copy of your DNA. DNA contains photons of light and light is frequency, which is energy. The famous inventor, Nikola Tesla, said "If you want to understand the secrets of the universe think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration." An electroencephalogram measures the energy in your brain cells while an electrocardiogram measures the energy in your heart cells. But is not just your heart and your brain that generate energy. Every cell of your body contains tiny sparks of electrical energy, and produces an energy field that flows all around you. Your energy field extends several feet around your entire body. When your energy is low you feel tired and unfocused. When your energy is vital you feel invigorated and happy.
Sometimes the energy flow around your body gets blocked. When blocks occur, the flow is interrupted and you start to feel tired. If the blocks are not released, eventually they move inwards, to the physical body, creating aches and pains and other symptoms. Over time, these symptoms can develop into more serious illness. Your energy field is the first layer of your body's immune system. It is as important to your body as the very cells that make the living tissue. Without this vital life force, you would not be a living organism.

When you receive Reiki, it clears blocks in your energy field. This helps to calm the physical body, relieving stress and pain. The human body is an amazing machine with built-in abilities for self healing. When you clear your energy field, the body simply has more space to get on with healing itself. This works for your mind too. A cluttered mind interrupts the flow of your energy and contributes to feelings of fatigue and depression.
Spontaneous remission and the placebo effect are proof that the mind and body, working together, are able to heal without medical intervention. The greatest thing about the body healing itself is that there are no side effects!
Psychoneuroimmunology (psycho-neuro-immune-ology) is the study of how the nervous system, the endocrine system (your glands) and the immune system are connected and interactive. Scientific studies of psychoneuroimmunology have demonstrated that levels of stress and negative beliefs impair the ability of the body's immune cells to function adequately - opening the door to disease and ill health. Because Reiki works in the energy field, it helps to bring coherence to all the systems of your body so they can work together in harmony.

Dr. Valerie Hunt is credited with scientifically proving the existence of the human aura. The official term used to describe the aura by the National Institute of Health is "Human Biofield." Dr Hunt believes that if we proactively used energy healing to keep ourselves well, we would not get sick because the energy field is the ingress of all disease, including genetic disease and autoimmune disease.
Because energy healing is sometimes associated with religion, people ask if Reiki is religious. The answer is no. It works for everyone of any cultural, spiritual, ethnic or religious background. This is because it has a basis in quantum (multi-dimensional) physics and has been proven through multiple scientific studies. While it may still be flirting on the outskirts of mainstream science, like chiropractic, which was obscure a hundred years ago, Reiki is gradually being accepted into mainstream healing and mainstream science. It is often used in hospitals and both doctors and nurses are learning Reiki.
