I get asked a lot about meditation, how, why and whether it is really necessary. There are some people who take to meditation like ducks to water and and others who resist and resist. Like me for example! When I sit down to meditate I tell myself "I'm really going to do it this time." I'll set a timer, play some soft music and be determined to reach theta brainwave state in my meditation. The first thing that happens is the minute I sit still, I remember all the things I need to do. So I keep some paper handy and write them down. That way I can get back to them after my meditation and stop worrying about them. Then I get comfortable, become conscious of my breathing and try again. More often that not I find myself a few minutes later roaming around the room, carrying out some chore or other. Often after less than 10 minutes. I don't consciously make the decision to come out of meditation, but my mind, body and spirit just seem to want to do things differently and I move around on autopilot until I realize, oh yeah! I was supposed to be meditating. What just happened?
In my Substack article I talk more about meditation, how it supports our physical health and emotional wellbeing and, more importantly, if you are someone who doesn't especially enjoy sitting still, what else you can do to receive those same health benefits and tune in to the voice of spirit guiding you.
